Eni, through its subsidiary Eni RAK, has received the assignment of Block 7 located onshore Ras Al Khaimah, in the United Arab Emirates. The Exploration and Production Contract was signed between the president of Eni RAK, Fuad Krekshi, and the general director of the Ras Al Khaimah Petroleum Authority, Nishant Dighe, in the presence of Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, member of the Supreme Council of the United Arab Emirates United and ruler of Ras Al Khaimah.

Block 7 covers an area of 430 km2 offshore Ras Al Khaimah. Eni RAK will be the operator of the Block with 90% equity interest together with the national company of Ras Al Khaimah RAK Gas with the remaining 10%.

Block 7 includes an under-explored area in a structural chain structure characterized by a complex geology, very similar to that present in the Emirate of Sharjah, where the production of the Mahani discovery was recently announced. The new 3D geophysical survey will allow the joint venture to evaluate the geological structure of the area and its hydrocarbon potential. The presence of gas treatment infrastructures in the Emirate with available capacity will allow rapid production of any discoveries.

Eni is already present in the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah and operates Block A offshore where, after an initial phase of study and re-elaboration of the geophysical data, preparations for exploratory drilling are starting.

The acquisition of Block 7 represents another step in Eni's positioning in the Middle East and in particular in the United Arab Emirates, where Eni holds the largest exploration area among the international companies present, with over 26.000 km2 of surface area and a total of 8 exploration blocks in the onshore and shallow waters of the Emirates of Abu Dhabi, Ras Al Khaimah and Sharjah.
