Eni through Vår Energy announces a new oil and gas discovery in the PL 869 license in the central area of the Norwegian North Sea

Eni, through Var Energy jointly owned by Eni (69,6%) and HitecVision (30,4%) announces an oil and gas discovery in the PL 869 license in the Norwegian North Sea. The discovery was made with the well 24 / 9-14S and a subsequent side track 24 / 9-14A in the exploratory prospect called Froskelar Main. Vår Energi AS holds a 20% equity interest in the license where Aker BP is the operator with 60% and Lundin Norway AS is the other partner with 20%. Froskelar is located about 4 km northwest of Bøyla Field and 225 km west of Stavanger in a water depth of 120 m. The well was drilled with the Scarabeo 8 plant.

The well 24 / 9-14S was drilled to a vertical depth of 2097 m encountering various levels of oil and gas mineralized in the Paleocene sandstones of the Hordland Group, with good petrophysical properties, interpreted as “Injectites”. The well tested a 68m column of hydrocarbons, 38m of which were mineralized with oil. The horizontal side track 24 / 9-14A encountered a succession of 540 m of sand with good quality, checking the contacts between the fluids. An intense data acquisition and fluid sampling campaign was conducted.

The operator's preliminary estimates indicate a discovery between 63 and 132 Millions of barrels of oil equivalent of recoverable reserves. A part of the discovery could be extended to British waters. The discovery can be linked to the nearby existing infrastructure in the Alvheim area.

The PL 869 license was awarded in the APA Round 2016 and surrounds the PL340 license (Vår Energi 20%) in which the Bøyla field and the Frosk discovery are located. Froskelar's findings double the resources of the Frosk discovery and are of considerable importance to Vår Energi as they are located in close proximity to the Bøyla field and the Balder / Ringhorne operated field.

Vår Energi is a major new independent exploration and production company on the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS) and is the result of a merger between Point Resources AS and Eni Norge AS.

Vår Energi holds interests in more than 100 licenses in the Norwegian offshore and operates production on the entire Norwegian continental shelf. The company has an organization with 800 employees. The current Equity production is around 160.000 barrels of oil equivalent per day.
