Washington, new duties on Chinese products are on the way

The tension on tariffs between China and America does not decrease. According to an important economic newspaper Donal Trump will announce in the next days a new wave of duties to hit the import of Chinese products worth about 200 billion dollars.

Rates are likely to be around 10%, below the expected 25%. The reduction, the Wall Street Journal explained, aims to contain the impact on American consumers ahead of the holiday shopping season and mid-term elections, where Republicans will fight to keep control of Congress.

Trump would also reserve the option of a further tariff hike to increase pressure on Beijing. The new negotiations between the US delegation led by Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and that led by Chinese Deputy Prime Minister Liu He are scheduled for September 27 and 28 in Washington.

Beijing was confident that any final decision on the new round of tariffs would be frozen until the next meeting. At this point it is unclear whether Liu He's visit will be confirmed after the announcement of the new duties.
