Yemen, the children die of hunger in the indifference of all

Amal Hussain died of starvation, the little girl who, despite herself, became a symbol of the suffering inflicted by the war on the people of Yemen. The little girl was reduced to skin and bones in her country ravaged by conflict. The New York Times published her photo last week, to try to break the silence and indifference of the world.

So a NY Times reporter: “We learned yesterday a few days after visiting the hospital that Amal was dead. The doctor had said that she should be sent fifteen miles to a hospital in Doctors Without Borders, but the mother had said that she did not have the means to transport her daughter. Like many Yemenis, they not only have no food to buy food, but not even to pay for gas. This means that the poor cannot afford to take their sick children to the hospital. So the lady took her daughter back home, to her hovel in the refugee camp, and 3 days later she told us that the child was dead ”.

Despite these daily horrors, diplomacy is also marking time despite the appeals of the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres who asked to stop the violence and save the country that is heading towards a precipice and finally get around a table to talk about peace: " This is not a natural disaster, the United Nations is feeding 8 million people but without urgent action 14 million people, half the population, could be at risk in the months to come ”.

The figures are scary. According to Save the children 5 millions of Yemeni children are at risk of starvation because of the war that exploded in 2015.
