Sarraj in Palermo to end divisions in Libya

The spokesman for Fayez Al-Sirraj - Head of the Libyan Presidential Council - Mohammed El Sallak told a press conference on Wednesday that Al-Sarraj will reiterate at the Palermo Conference the need to go to elections in Libya and approve a constitutional basis.
El Sallak said that Al-Sirraj will also underline the need to end division in state institutions and invite the international community to help unite the country's institutions.
"Al-Sirraj will also discuss at the Palermo conference on the need to pursue security agreements and economic reforms".

Instability in southern Libya

El Sallak also said that Al-Sirraj has appointed a government delegation to visit the southern region and start solving security or service issues.
The delegation will be formed by Vice President presidential council Abdelsalam Kajaman, PC member Ahmed Hamza and local government ministers, social affairs, labor and several officials from other ministries.
The south was hit by a wave of unrest and fighting and just less than two days ago a checkpoint in the Al-Fuqahaa district was attacked by ISIS, leaving four dead and eight kidnapped on the ground. The region had also been the battleground for clashes with Chadian rebel groups.

Units of military institutions

Al-Sirraj's spokesman also touched on the strategic need to unify the military institution, adding that negotiations were still ongoing, thanking Egypt for its efforts in this regard.
Over the past week, Cairo has hosted meetings of senior military officials with the aim of reaching an agreement to unify the Libyan military institution under the auspices of the Egyptian committee tasked with addressing Libyan issues. No official agreement was reached.
