Turkish Foreign Minister accuses Berlin of using the EU for bilateral agreements

New accusations against Germany come from the Ankara government. European Affairs Minister Omer Celik has pointed the finger at Berlin claiming that the German government is trying to use the European Union for its purposes. According to Celik, reports the German news agency Dpa, whoever asks for the suspension of Turkey's EU accession negotiations is trying to "use the European Union to tackle bilateral problems". Celik then asked for the resumption of negotiations, stating that Ankara wants the opening of other negotiating chapters, such as the one on the judiciary and fundamental rights. On Sunday, during the televised debate ahead of the political elections on September 24, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Social Democratic leader Martin Schulz both expressed their support for Turkey's EU accession negotiations to stop.
