Ankara: Long talk between Erdogan and Emiro al Thani

The closed-door meeting between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the Emir of Qatar Emir Tamit bin Hamad al Thani lasted two and a half hours in the presidential palace in Ankara. According to presidential administration sources, the talks focused on the crisis in relations between the Gulf countries, the situation in Syria and other international issues.

The meeting was also attended by the Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Berat Albayrak. At the end of the meeting Erdogan and al Thani highlighted the need for a diplomatic solution to the crisis in relations that arose between some Gulf countries and Qatar and also confirmed further bilateral cooperation in resolving the Syrian crisis. The last meeting between the two leaders took place in July, during Erdogan's visit to Qatar.

In early June, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates broke off diplomatic relations with Qatar, accusing the country of supporting terrorism and interfering in their internal affairs. Through Kuwait, which acts as a mediator in the crisis, the four Arab states delivered an ultimatum containing 13 requests to Doha, but the country refused them.
