Three years after the last edition, on Sunday 26 June the city returns to experience the emotions of the Palestrina Archeologica, the 9 and a half kilometer foot race that brings running enthusiasts to challenge each other on a path steeped in history and tradition.
After the long stop due to the covid emergency, which forced the Asd Palestrina Running to cancel the 2020 and 2021 editions, the Summer of Prenestina therefore returns to propose the exciting appointment with sport.
After several night editions, on Sunday 26 June the seventh edition of the Palestrina Archeologica returns to take place in the morning, with a scheduled departure at 9.00 from Viale della Vittoria (in front of the pharmacy) in the direction of Via degli Arcioni. The path is beautiful, largely shaded, divided into three laps (of about 3km each) which, starting from Piazza Santa Maria degli Angeli, will lead the athletes to walk along via degli Arcioni, via Alcide de Gasperi, viale Fussen, piazzale Kennedy, via Aldo Moro to return to the center through via del Tempio, corso Pierluigi, piazza Regina Margherita and arrive, after via Anicia, on the starting point. The refueling in the race is foreseen, at each lap (every 3 km), in piazzale Kennedy while after the arrival a final refreshment is available for everyone.
A challenging track at times that stands out however for the suggestion of the places crossed, immersed in the beauties of the city.
To allow athletes to run in total safety, the roads covered by the race will be closed to traffic until 10.30 (by order of the mayor n.65 of 14 June 2022), with alternative roads to reach practically every area of Palestrina. In this regard, the Asd Palestrina Running and the municipal administration invite citizens to actively collaborate, paying the utmost attention to closures and parking / stopping bans to avoid unnecessary and unpleasant misunderstandings and problems.
Available to the athletes, easy to reach, there is the large car park in via della Martuccia and the multi-storey (both close to the start) as well as the two car parks, not far away and also served by public shuttles, from piazzale Italia and piazzale della Peace.
As every year, there are many prizes up for grabs (100 individual and ten company), with a race pack for the first 500 members and a beautiful artistic finisher medal, engraved on metal, whose design was created by the graphic designer (as well as Athlete Palestrina Running), Marco Cenci who, in a particularly delicate moment in the world, wanted to represent three athletes in running, highlighting the themes of diversity and inclusion.
Two, in particular, are the novelties of the 2022 edition. The first, particularly felt by all the athletes and by the entire city of Palestrina, is the title of the race as "Gianluca Pompili Trophy", in memory of the athlete who died prematurely. in May 2020 without stopping, until the last day, to bring help and solidarity to the homes of patients affected by the covid (as coordinator of the Palestrina Civil Protection group).
The second novelty concerns the recognition of the Palestrina match, by Fidal, as the provincial championship of Rome South, complete with the assignment of the champion's jersey and medals to the first three classified of the special rankings that Fidal will make among the only members of the South Rome companies. .
