According to a statement from the administration of Ukraine, “The president of Ukraine had a telephone conversation with the president of Russia to promote the release of some Ukrainian hostages, in particular of the border guards in state of capture, as well as the release of Ukrainian soldiers in the occupied territories. In addition, the agenda of the meeting of foreign ministers of the countries of the Normandy Format (France, Germany, Russia and Ukraine), which is scheduled for February 16 in Munich, was discussed. The telephone conversation took place in coordination with the European partners in the Normandy format and with the US allies ”.
The news has been re-launched by all local media. The Ukrainian weekly "Zerkalo Nedeli" reports that the conversation was long and took place on the initiative of the Ukrainian side.
The contacts, according to the publication, were held on February 12. Previously, Putin and Poroshenko held official talks at the end of July in the Normandy format, with the participation of French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
