High-level Kurdish-Syrian sources reported that the government of Damascus has reached an agreement for the military support of the Syrian government forcesane to the Kurdish ones in the enclave of Afrin, under attack by Turkey and local militias allied with Ankara, since last January 20.
In recent days, Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Faysal Miqdad had stated that Syria considers Afrin an integral part of the country and that it would not give up an inch of its territory. According to Kurdish sources, "in the next few days" the government forces will enter the Afrin district.
The area, surrounded to the north and west by the border with Turkey and to the south by the Syrian zone, is effectively controlled by Turkish forces. Damascus forces can intervene from the east, from the Tell Rifat corridor, which connects Aleppo to Afrin.
