Theresa May in China for a new trade agreement

The first official meetings in China of the British Prime Minister, Theresa May, are scheduled for today. They intend to start negotiations to conclude a new trade agreement with Beijing.

This was announced by the same May to journalists on board the Royal Air Force during the trip to Wuhan where it is expected to sign bilateral agreements in the field of university education for a total value of 570 million.

"China is a country we want to do a trade deal with," said May, "but I think there is more we can do in the meantime, regarding potential barriers to trade and opening up markets to ensure that British companies are able to trade well in China ”.

Even before the departure, May had pointed out the differences with China, in particular on the Chinese overproduction of steel affecting the British industry. This afternoon, May will be in Beijing, and in the next few days in Shanghai, where she will conclude her visit on February 2nd. In the Chinese capital, May will first meet with her Chinese counterpart, Prime Minister Li Keqiang, and later with President Xi Jinping.
