Calabria – Covello (PD): Reviving thermalism in the south is possible

Everything is ready for the conference that will start this evening in Guardia Piemontese on the theme of thermalism. The conference will be attended not only by the President of the Calabria Region, Mario Oliverio, but also by the deputy Stefania Covello who declared: "The spa sector is a strategic sector for the country, too often underestimated in the south and which instead can really represent an opportunity for entire areas . It is also for this reason that in Parliament I am following with great attention the process of the bill signed by Fanucci for the relaunch of the thermal sector ”.

Among other things, he adds, “the interrelationships that this sector has with other segments, in particular welfare segments, should not be underestimated. In fact, thermalism is a precious resource for the national health service. For Italy, for the South and for Calabria. In Italy there are 378 thermal establishments distributed in 20 regions with 60 thousand employees and a turnover of almost 2 billion euros. The south is suffering from a series of delays that must be made up for as soon as possible ”. According to Covello, “first of all we need a different institutional marketing. We need interaction with healthcare facilities. Why do hundreds of our fellow countrymen with the same treatment have to go thousands of km away? Let's set up a reasoning with the after-work with the pensioners' unions with tourist offers because spa tourism is an important voice in Italy. To do this you need to equip yourself, you need a pact with the operators. Investments are needed and less bureaucracy is needed. There are not only Italian entrepreneurs who have an interest in this segment and that we must not let go elsewhere ". “In my opinion it is possible to create a real spa district between the southern area of Basilicata and the northern area of Calabria. But a change of pace is needed, from simple things to more complex ones, from road signs to presence on specialized sites. We need new synergies in which to invest. The bill foresees 20 million investments in two years and in the stability law we hope to give some answers. We must give structure to the discussion of this conference because - concludes Covello - even in the south, it is also possible to develop thermal tourism in Calabria ”.
