In Rome, the Army for anti-Covid controls

(by Massimiliano D'Elia) Yesterday alone, 400 cases of Coronavirus positives were discovered in Rome. Endless queues to be tested at the hospitals of the capital.
To intervene, hopefully in time, the provincial committee for public order and safety, which also met yesterday in the Prefecture in Rome. The meeting was attended by heads of police, carabinieri, finance, traffic police, for the first time representatives of the Armed Forces, but also the Region, the Municipality and municipalities, together with the health authorities.

The situation following the resurgence of the virus has held up, however, the data of the increase in infections (400 in a few hours) raise many concerns especially for the health system which is still sustainable today but which could become critical in the face of the need for hospitalization of many sick people.
Men and women of the Police Force are needed around the street to sensitize the population to the correct use of masks and to respect the safety distance. An enormous job given the extent of the areas to be controlled and often to be manned. Here in this difficult context that the Defense is called to intervene. The Army soldiers will support the Police forces during the patrols but will also be able to intervene during the static service that they are already carrying out in the stations of the "Safe Roads" operation.

In the Roman area alone, the synergy between the Army Police Forces worked during the total “lockdown” because the over three million citizens identified are proof of this. Today the watchword, given that the total lockdown does not seem to be an option that the national government will want to put in place, is to intensify checks among people on the street and beyond.
Controls will be concentrated between the Capitoline streets but also on public transport and at their stops, on public ceremonies, amateur sporting events and parties, which will be prohibited, or in any case limited in the number of participants.
Tomorrow there will be a new meeting of the committee to check the new data and possibly decide on new further restrictions.
