Enel, on the road to building Wayra, the first wind farm in Peru

Enel, through its subsidiary Enel Green Power Peru ("EGPP"), has started the construction of Wayra, its first wind farm in Peru, located in the district of Marcona, Ica region. The park, in which the first wind turbines are being installed, will have a total capacity of 132 MW and, once completed, will be the largest in the country.

"The construction of the first Enel wind farm in Peru strengthens our presence in the country, demonstrating our significant commitment to the Peruvian renewable energy market", stated Antonio Cammisecra, responsible for Enel Green Power. "We are ready to develop new projects that will contribute to the diversification of our activities in the country. Our goal in Peru is to become a leading operator in the field of renewable energy production, which we consider to be fundamental for sustainable development, at local and national level ".

The Enel Group will invest about 165 million US dollars in the construction of the new wind farm, an investment that is part of the Group's strategic plan. The park, which should start operating in the first half of the 2018, will sell the energy generated as part of a twenty-year supply contract signed with the Ministry of Energy and Mining of Peru.

The new wind farm, which includes 42 wind turbines of over 3 MW each, will be able to generate around 600 GWh per year, equal to the annual consumption of over 480.000 Peruvian households and avoiding the emission of almost 288.000 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere. per year. The energy produced by the plant will be fed into the Peruvian transmission grid (SEIN) through the Poroma substation.

In line with the Model of Creating Shared Value (CSV) adopted by the Enel Group to reconcile business development with the needs of local communities, EGPP has launched a plan to promote income generation opportunities in areas close to ' facility. The plan, which includes entrepreneurial training courses for women and support for the creation of their businesses, is implemented in coordination with local authorities and communities.

In 2016, the Enel Group was awarded the right to enter into energy supply contracts for the Wayra I1 plant following the fourth public renewable energy auction launched by Peru's Peruvian Authority Authority. With a total of 326 MW of wind, solar and hydroelectric power awarded, EGPP will be able to become the principal renewable energy operator in Peru within 2018 and the only company in the country to manage plants based on three different renewable technologies.

The Enel Group is present in the Peruvian generation sector through EGPP (also involved in the construction of the solar plant from 180 MW of Rubí and the hydroelectric plant from 20 MW of Ayanunga), Enel Generación Perú and Enel Generación Piura, which rely on a total installed capacity of around 2 GW. The Group also operates in the distribution sector of the country with Enel Distribución Perú, which serves almost 1,4 million customers in the Lima region.

Enel Green Power, a renewable division of the Enel Group, specializes in the development and management of renewable plants throughout the world, and is present in Europe, America, Asia, Africa and Oceania. A world leader in the clean energy sector with a managed capacity of around 39 GW in a generation mix that includes wind, solar, geothermal, biomass and hydropower, Enel Green Power is at the forefront of the integration of innovative technologies such as systems accumulation in renewable power plants.
