Turin: international drug trafficking

The State Police of Turin and the policemen of the Central Operative Service have executed the provision of arrest of a suspect of crime for violation of the legislation on narcotics, against two subjects of foreign nationality.

The investigative activity arose from other anti-drug operations conducted by the Romanian Judicial Authority in the context of a procedure for international drug trafficking. In this activity, a Romanian citizen was investigated who, since 2010, had collaborated with an organized criminal group that had an operational base in Turin. This Romanian subject had the role of identifying other compatriots willing to transport cocaine from Brazil to Europe, previously hidden in eggs to be swallowed or concealed in suitcases with double bottom, in exchange for money.

In the period between the 2010 and the 2012, several Romanian citizens were used as "couriers" to transport the drug by means of eggs from Brazil to Italy and Europe for the benefit of two foreigners living in Turin named "People" and " Ruth ".

From subsequent investigations conducted in Italy and which for the first time saw the activation of an undercover operator belonging to the Romanian police, it was ascertained that the referents of drug trafficking were a couple of Nigerians residing in Turin, who had introduced in Italy and in other European cities large quantities of cocaine and heroin from some South American countries, in particular Brazil.

Many of these foreigners had been brought to Turin where they were welcomed by "RUTH" who took care of the logistics and payment of the travel expenses of the couriers, who received the sums through Western Union.

The investigations revealed that one of these couriers, of Romanian nationality, recruited by "PEOPLE", had already been arrested at the airport of São Paulo (Brazil) for possession of a kilogram of cocaine in May of 2011.

More recently, a further courier, born in Sudan and a Spanish citizen, was arrested by the German police in Frankfurt am Main (Germany) because he hid around the 1 intestine kg of heroin divided into eggs.

On the basis of the elements gathered, the local Judicial Authority decided to issue measures to detain a suspect of crime for trafficking in drugs.

The judge for preliminary investigations, under the terms of the law, validated the restrictive provision of the Public Prosecutor of Turin and issued the precautionary measure of custody in prison.
