Twelve medals for the students of the Italian team

Rich medal table for the Italian team at the XV International Earth Sciences Olympiad 2022 (IESO - International Earth Sciences Olympiad 25): twelve awards obtained by the students who represented our country. This edition of the competition, which took place online from 31 to XNUMX August last, was based on the ISIT “Innocent Manzetti” of Aosta. 

Specifically, there are eight medals obtained by the girls and boys of our schools who challenged each other in the "Data Mining Test", that is a test that required to obtain information from various data and in different themes and contexts, putting many skills into play , using digital resources, thinking about papers and graphics. Matteo Oldani, of the Liceo “D. Bramante ”from Magenta (MI), Paolo Basso, from the“ Plinio Seniore ”scientific high school in Rome, and Erica Marcotullio, from the“ Regina Maria Adelaide ”high school in Aosta. Bronze medals for Caterina Asquini, from ISIS “A. Malignani ”of Udine, Alessandro Beretta, of the Liceo Statale“ A. Banfi ”of Vimercate (MB), Amina Charraki, of the Liceo“ G. Curcio ”of Ispica (RG), Django Mirko Darren, of the“ A. Moro ”of Reggio Emilia, and Matteo Trombetta, of the scientific high school“ P. Frisi ”of Monza. 

As for the challenge in the "Earth Science project", a test in which teams of students from different nations had to analyze the complex consequences of global warming, the medals were won by Amina Charraki, of the "G. Curcio "of Ispica (RG), who obtained gold, Erica Marcotullio, from the" Regina Maria Adelaide "high school in Aosta, and Matteo Trombetta, from the" P. Frisi ”of Monza, who won the silver, and Caterina Asquini, of ISIS“ A. Malignani ”in Udine, which was awarded a bronze. 

The tests were developed by Susanna Occhipinti, national coordinator of the Earth Sciences Olympics for ANISN-National Association of Earth Sciences, who, with the technical staff, managed the entire organization of the IESO 2022. 

The IESOs are promoted by the IGEO-International Geoscience Education Organization. Partner of the 2022 edition, the Ministry of Education, ANISN, the National Association of Natural Science Teachers, the Valle d'Aosta Autonomous Region, the Italian Geological Society, the EGU-European Geological Union, the EDU-INAF, who prepared one of the tests in collaboration with the Astronomical Observatory of the Aosta Valley and collaborated with the University of Milan to give a voice to the experts who gave their lectures.
