Italy-San Marino, discussion at MIT on the use of Rimini airport and road links

The use of the Rimini airport by the Republic of San Marino and the inter-regional road links with Emilia Romagna and the Marche are the topics at the center of the bilateral meeting held at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport between the Minister Paola De Micheli, the San Marino Secretary of State for Finance with responsibility for Transport, Marco Gatti and his colleague with responsibility for Infrastructure, Stefano Canti.

The authorities of San Marino have asked to participate together with the Italian State in a project that could increase the international dimension of the Rimini airport.

Minister De Micheli stressed the preliminary need to clarify the framework of the relations that regulate the use of the Rimini airport by San Marino and put forward the proposal to set up a technical table, coordinated by the MIT Department of Transport, which involves the San Marino authorities and also the airport management company. With the aim of defining the most profitable methods of collaboration for all parties involved.

On the subject of road and infrastructural connections between the Republic of San Marino and the neighboring regions, Minister De Micheli recalled that Anas has already started the definitive planning of the interventions along the State Road 72 to which adequate financial coverage will be allocated. The works can be contracted starting from 2021.

As regards the extension of the “Metromare” light rail route and the construction of new cycle paths, MIT's willingness to evaluate the financing of projects that must be presented by Italian local authorities and possibly supported with San Marino resources was reaffirmed.

Finally, Secretary Gatti touched on the issue of the driving ban for vehicles registered abroad by Italian citizens, hoping for the adoption of some exceptions, as in the case of company cars.
