The Council of the European Banking Federation yesterday elected the CEO of the UniCredit Group, Jean Pierre Mustier, President of the European Banking Federation (Fbe) for the two-year period 1 July 2019 - 30 June 2021. "I am pleased to assume the role of President in a such an important moment in the evolution of the banking sector - said Jean Pierre Mustier - and I thank the Council of the European Banking Federation for the trust it has been given to me. I look forward to working with all members of the Federation to develop a common reform agenda so that our banks can increasingly effectively support the economy across Europe ”.

Mustier succeeds the CEO of the Société Générale Group, Frédéric Oudea, whose mandate expires at the end of June. Oudea was elected President of the Federation in 2015 and then renewed for the next two years.

The European Banking Federation is the voice of the banking sector at European level: 32 national banking Associations, including the Italian Banking Association, are members of the bank, representing about 3.500 banks and 2 million employees overall.

Among the governing bodies of the European Banking Federation, in addition to the Council, there is the Executive Committee, in which members of the banking associations that adhere to the Fbe sit. The current president of the Executive Committee of the Federation is the General Director of the ABI, Giovanni Sabatini, who held the position of President in the two-year period 2016-2017 and was reconfirmed for the 2018-2019 period.
