Kargu-2, unmanned drones that kill you with artificial intelligence

A UN report on the civil war in Libya revealed that drones and artificial intelligence were used to track down and kill opponents. In these operations, the militias fighting General Haftar's troops would use Turkish drones equipped with artificial intelligence, including facial recognition technology. They launched drones like the Kargu-2, to attack enemies even at a considerable distance. The absolute novelty is that these armed drones they strike to kill their targets "autonomously" without the final command of a human operator. In practice, they acquire their target following the analysis of the data provided by the tools of artificial intelligence and shoot to death without any other evaluation, such as avoiding collateral damage. The Kargu-2 is a Turkish-made quadcopter that can be used in "swarms" of 20 units.

It is not known whether the first use of these lethal and unscrupulous weapons was on Libyan territory. What is certain is that if it were ascertained that this technology has independently tracked and shot human beings, killing them, it would be a “unicum” of the genre, to reflect on. There are, however, secret reports that Israel has already used similar technology in Syria and Azerbaijan against the Armenian forces. The use of drones and robots in war is nothing new: they are used by South Korea in the demilitarized zone against North Korea and by Israel on the border with Gaza. Britain has remote-controlled tank turrets. But, in all of these cases, the weapon systems are commanded by humans, who can choose targets and evaluate tactical situations from time to time using integrated cameras. Last month, the International Committee of the Red Cross called for international regulations to control such weapons, including banning their use against humans.
