Conte's armchair is now resting on shifting sands

Giuseppe Conte is under siege by crossfire, everyone would like him away from Palazzo Chigi, perhaps replaced by any Di Maio. The counterpart? Election of one of the Democratic Party at the Quirinale. Yesterday, from Piazza del Popolo in Rome, the united center-right called for new elections already in September in a sort of “Election Day”. The plots in the palaces of power are becoming more and more dense while the Italians are still waiting to see concretely the effects of the tens of billions of euros that the various government decrees have committed for an elusive revival of the country.

(by Francesco Matera) The Prime Minister, Giuseppe Conte from the stage of the Uil he categorically rejected "the chatter" that is made in the newspapers accusing him of leading a wait-and-see government unable to make decisions: "The reality of the facts says the opposite, we are launching reforms never seen before in republican history ”.

Giuseppe Conte according to rumors, however, wanted to confront the leaders of the majority parties. He contacted them one by one to ask if there is still mutual trust and a desire to move forward. The background that tells of the nervousness of Dario Franceschini, of the ambitions of Luigi Di Maio, of the maneuvers of Matteo Renzi, all converge on one point: that his position as premier wobbles.

Matteo Renzi was clear by making it clear to Conte that no one really intends to drop him, because Sergio Mattarella it has already been clear in this regard: would dissolve the Chambers. Elections that Renzi himself does not want with a new electoral law. Proportional with a 5 percent barrier, it would mean political death. Then there are the nominations of the commission chairs and there too Renzi wants to shore up his own.

Nicola Zingaretti, likewise, he confirmed that no one has in mind to drop it and that Franceschini's discontent will somehow return, just keep on a path of sharing economic choices.

Vito Crimi hinted that the grillini have no intention of replacing him, simply because there is no substitute and even those who grumble about Conte's individualism are aware that in defense of the premier there is  Beppe Grillo. An "endorsement" that of Grillo a Conte that Di Maio cannot digest, so much so that between dinners and secluded meetings with some loyalists he feeds the internal "gossip" about his real ambitions: Palazzo Chigi. In this regard, the senator Taverna has a poisoned tooth: "You can forget it, he told some colleagues, "Grillo will make him understand ".

Many within the Movement believe that it was Renzi himself who whispered to Di Maio that everything is possible, you just have to want it. Many others bet there is  Franceschini behind the scenes to direct the direction that would see a grillino at Palazzo Chigi for the rest of the legislature in exchange for a member of the Democratic Party on the highest hill in Rome.
