History teaches ... but who decides for us citizens, has studied history?

(by Adriano Giancane) Our country, in Post Covid-19, has only one task: to revive the economy and employment by leveraging the lessons identified in the historical periods that characterized our path towards the future.

The spring of 1945 marked a fundamental historical watershed. After a long and bloody war that caused about 70 million deaths, peace came.

Like the rest of Europe, Italy in 1945 was a country strongly tried by the devastations of the war: the industrial production of the country had decreased by 70% that agricultural had halved; the transport system had collapsed and the condition of public and private buildings seriously affected.

Strong unemployment and numerous social tensions completed the picture of the many difficulties that the new democratic system was facing.

With the end of the war and the return to civilian life, the veterans began to return from the fronts and prison camps, with great willpower they began to work and rebuild what the war had destroyed.

The first substantial aid to the Italian economic recovery came from abroad: the insertion of Italy in the capitalist bloc of western US-led countries allowed the start of the US intervention aimed at promoting the recovery of the entire European economy.

The European Recovery Program, better known as "Marshall plan " it was launched in June 1947 and during the following three years, until 1951, it poured out 13 billion dollars, plus material aid of all kinds, on the European economies and, of course, also on the Italian one.

Thanks to these considerable concrete interventions already at the beginning of the 50s, Italy overcame the most critical period for the economy, bringing production levels back to those before the conflict.

Luigi Einaudi

In the immediate post-war period, economic policy was led by the liberal economist Luigi Einaudi, who managed to recover the Lira's purchasing power by restoring investor confidence with energetic and forward-looking measures.

Brave economic choices were made to stimulate national production by promoting employment to stimulate consumption and consequently to increase Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

Today our country finds itself having to rebuild its economy and not for the Covid-19 Pandemic which was only incidental.

According to EURISPES, our country's economic fundamentals were already negative in the period preceding the ongoing pandemic.

For years Italy has suffered from the absence of an economic policy geared towards growth, increased productivity and incentives for the growth of companies.

Our country pays around 60 billion interest annually on a very high public debt and is unable to express economic growth, even when the economic cycle is positive.

Enrico Mattei

Today, to restore the economy, it would take servants of the state of the caliber of Luigi Einaudi, recognized worldwide as the promoter of an important monetary reform and of Enrico Mattei, who between 1945 and 1962 carried out industrial and political strategies for a new "ITALIAN MIRACLE".

Unfortunately, politics in Italy does not enjoy popularity due to perceived behaviors attributed to it such as corruption, privileges, lies, immorality and incompetence.

We Italians are a great PEOPLE we deserve more !!!!

We must not lose hope, many Italians still have competence, they deserve to be valued to provide the politics of this country with the new path towards a new economic policy that allows innovation, growth and the reduction of the precariousness spread in the new generations .

We must not lose hope of renewing the educational courses of young people, some of which, the most important, stopped in the 70s.

It is time to have an efficient and digitized public administration, with a different culture of responsibility.

The transformation of our society will not depend on financial resources to bring about change, Europe has made available many financial resources and has also given us back the European development funds not spent by our country.

The transformation will depend on the ability of the political class to understand and have the courage and responsibility to rely on the capable and deserving of our country to provide the new vectors of economic development and to implement them as already done in the past by Einaudi and Mattei.

The Italians are waiting for concrete signals to be able to rise again as already done after the Second World War.
