The Air Force launches the new comic "FIRESTORM" included in the series for the Centenary.

Necklace "One hundred years of Air Force in comics” designed to celebrate the XNUMXth anniversary of its foundation, is enriched with a new volume “Firestorm”.

Author, screenwriter and illustrator an Air Force pilot, “Joe Draft”, which tells through the powerful language of comics one of the most recent air operations conducted by the Armed Forces in Libya in 2011.

For this operation in Libya, the Italian government authorized the use by 11 countries of the international coalition of seven Air Force bases, but those most involved were Trapani Birgi, Gioia del Colle, Sigonella, Decimomannu and Aviano, which ensured support about 200 aircraft.

An Italian commitment much appreciated by the allies, especially by the US defense secretary, Leon E. Panetta, who on 5 October 2011, speaking at the meeting of NATO defense ministers, officially praised Italy for the role played not only for the "valuable contribution” supplied to air-to-surface missions, but also to the function of “essential basis for allied operations".

The author, through the drawings, in addition to describing all the assets of the Air Force involved in what is remembered as one of the most important operations of the last twenty years, offers a faithful and detailed description of the aircraft, the uniforms, the environments , as well as the "modus operandi" in flight, so that the work was as faithful to reality and history as possible.

Requirement this which has been confirmed by Gen. SA Aurelio COLAGRANDE in the preface of the volume "The events narrated in this comic, even if they are pure fantasy stories drawn from the author's imagination, as he himself reiterates in the introduction to the volume, are however inspired by real events and set in authentic places. All this with the intention of arousing an emotion in the reader and therefore "reliving" firsthand those events in which the Air Force operated with full competence, courage and self-sacrifice and which, through the language of comics, intends make known and disseminated to the public, especially towards the youth."
