The Aeronautica Militare celebrates the world day of meteorology

Friday 23 March 2018. World Meteorological Day (GMM-2018) is celebrated around the world on the anniversary of the founding of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) in 1950. The celebratory event, in Italy, is organized by the Italian Association of Atmospheric Sciences and Meteorology (AISAM), by Sapienza University of Rome, by the Air Force and by the National Research Council through an event that will be hosted at the Roman University.

This year the GMM is dedicated to atmospheric sciences analyzed both from the point of view of their impact on daily life, in the light of climate change underway, and regarding university training opportunities in the sector. The theme proposed by the WMO is "Meteorologically ready, climatically intelligent" (Weather-Ready, Climate-Smart).

The Aeronautica Militare, which has among its institutional tasks, through the Meteorological Service, that of contributing to the safeguard of lives and the environment, will be present at the event with Col. Silvio Cau and with Lieutenant Colonel Daniele Mocio.

Col. Cau, Permanent Representative of Italy to the WMO, was entrusted with the task of bringing the greetings to the participants, focusing on the salient aspects of the theme proposed for this edition, while T. Col. Mocio illustrated the characteristics of good and effective meteorological communication, which must be reliable at the same time but expressed with simple and usable language. This is the inspiring principle of his speech, entitled "Communicating time: meteorological science and false myths in popularization" .

To highlight the event, the March issue of the Aeronautical Meteorology Magazine, available on line on the AM portal, it contains numerous contributions on the theme of the day, edited by the editorial staff and elaborated by authoritative protagonists of the national meteorological community. The event includes, in the morning, a session on the university training offer in atmospheric sciences and in the afternoon interventions by experts ranging from civil protection to agrometeorology, from climate impacts to scientific communication.
