Lavrov, a worrying US military space strategy

Russian Foreign Minister Sergej #Lavrov yesterday at the meeting of foreign ministers of the countries that make up the #Brics block (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa), meeting in Rio de Janeiro commented on the US defense policy and security, the interview was taken up by the #Tass news agency: "The development of US plans to deploy anti-missile defense systems in space will lead to another phase of the arms race. We are concerned about US plans to deploy weapons into space which are already being implemented. This will lead to another qualitative phase of an arms race. As you know, #Russia and #Cina have already presented a draft proposal on the prevention of arms deployment in space at the disarmament conference in Geneva.

We appreciate the fact that BRICS countries converge on annual resolutions on this issue during the sessions of the United Nations General Assembly "

Lavrov then speaks of international security, which is extremely threatened by the deterioration of the long-established strategy of strategic stability.

"Disturbing examples are US efforts to overthrow the Missile Defense Treaty and the New Start (Strategic Nuclear Arms Reduction Treaty). Uncertainty also persists around the INF treaty (Treaty on medium and short range missiles). We've suggested extending it but haven't received a response from #Washington yet".

The Intermediate Interval Nuclear Forces Treaty between Russia and the United States will expire on August 2. The United States claimed that the Inf (Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty) was already dead because they claim that Russia had violated it for years, partly by developing and fielding the Ssc-8 nuclear-based cruise missile. .

Last February, Washington suspended its participation in the treaty, saying it would abandon the agreement on August 2 if Russia did not return to compliance. Moscow denied the treaty violation allegation and accused Washington of violating the agreement, which the United States also denied.

On July 3, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a bill suspending the country's participation in the treaty. The decree was approved by the Russian parliament last month.

Inf. Treaty

The Inf treaty, signed by the president of the United States, Ronald Reagan, and by the Soviet president, Mikhail Gorbachev, in the 1987, was considered an important agreement on arms control.

It prohibits Russia and the United States from owning, producing or conducting test flights of ground launched cruise missiles and ballistic missiles with a range of 500 to 5.500 kilometers. The treaty limits the number of warheads deployed to 1.550 for each party. The Chinese "People's Daily" explains, as reported by the Italian agency Nova, that in an article in "Arms Control Today", a monthly magazine on non-proliferation and global security, Daryl G. Kimball, executive director of Arms Control The US-based Association has suggested extending the new Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty, also known as the New Start, for five years in order to "provide a basis for a more ambitious subsequent agreement."
