A war has been going on for several days between the State of Israel and the Hamas organization. Hamas's pro-war narrative is the alleged defense of the shrines of Islam in Jerusalem. In doing so, it seeks to strengthen its political stance in Judea and Samaria against the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), which leads the Palestinian Authority. Israel responded with massive airstrikes on targets in Gaza, while Hamas fired hundreds of missiles at Israel. Israel is trying to weaken Hamas' military and operational capabilities by eliminating senior commanders and blowing up arms factories. There is also a plan for possible land entry into Gaza. This was reported by military spokesman Hidai Zilberman quoted by Times of Israel. The plans - drawn up by the Southern Command and the Gaza Division - after the eventual approval will therefore be subjected, added Zilberman, to the examination of the political leadership. The army in recent days has reinforced its deployment around the Strip but still no decision has been taken to proceed with a possible entry into Gaza.
THE SURPRISE OF ISRAELI INTELLIGENCE
The ongoing war has also highlighted a not inconsiderable superficiality of Israeli military intelligence (IMI). Military analysts thought that Hamas only wanted to maintain the status quo in Palestine, the considerable missile capacity well hidden between civilian homes and Iranian and Syrian external aid was underestimated. Hamas surprised intelligence men by possessing a wide range of weapons, such as long-range missiles with a range of more than 150 miles. ROCKETS OF HAMAS DEPARTED FROM THE AREA NEAR THE ITALIAN BASE IN LEBANON
The three rockets fired last night from southern Lebanon towards Israel were fired from an area close to the military bases of the Italian contingent of Unifil, the UN mission in southern Lebanon near the Blue Line dividing the Jewish state. According to local media, the rockets started from mobile platforms placed in an agricultural field and hidden among the tall and dense foliage of banana plantations near Qleila, 10 kilometers from the Shamaa base of the Italian contingent, responsible for the Western Sector (Sector West) of the Responsibility Area (AoR) of the UN mission. The Italian contingent of Unifil has about a thousand soldiers deployed in the western districts of the area where the UN peacekeepers have been operating since 1978.
