Leonardo: delivered the first two NH90 NFH naval helicopters for Qatar

The first two helicopters were delivered to the Qatar Air Force from Leonardo's production plant in Venice Tessera on 31 March. The Qatar Air Force is one of the operators to use both versions (TTH and NFH) of the NH90 for various land and sea applications.

Leonardo acts as prime contractor with responsibility for the management of the program, the final assembly and delivery of the 12 NH90 NFH helicopters from the Venice - Tessera plant and the provision of support and training services for crews and maintenance technicians. . Managed through the NHIndustries joint venture, the NH90 is the largest military helicopter program in Europe with nearly 470 units in service worldwide and nearly 330.000 flight hours accumulated by carrying out missions in the most diverse weather conditions, land and sea.

New important result for the NH90 program of the Qatar Air Force with the delivery of the first two NFH naval helicopters. The delivery, which took place in line with contractual commitments, was carried out on 31 March during an official ceremony at the Leonardo plant in Venice Tessera in the presence of representatives of the operator, the company and the NHIndustries joint venture. The event follows the delivery of the first TTH version helicopter for land use, which took place in December 2021 at the Airbus Helicopters plant in Marignane in France, to which the second TTH was added more recently. The first naval NFH was first publicly unveiled on Qatar's National Day on 18 December.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION ABOUT QATAR NH90 PROGRAM

The NH90 program for Qatar includes 16 NH90 TTH, 12 NH90 NFH, a complete package of support, maintenance, training and infrastructure. The program could be further expanded in the future with the addition of another 12 units (6 TTH + 6 NFH). Leonardo acts as prime contractor with responsibility for program management, final assembly and delivery of the 12 NH90 NFH helicopters from its Venice - Tessera facility, providing a complete support package, simulators, systems and services for training for crews and maintenance technicians. Leonardo also provides, contributes or supports the integration of various equipment, avionics systems and sensors including its LEOSS-T HD electro-optical system, video and identification systems, HD displays for the mission consoles installed in the cabin. Airbus Helicopters is responsible for the final assembly of the 16 NH90 TTHs. Deliveries will continue until 2025.

NOTE TO THE EDITORS ON LEONARDO'S CONTRIBUTION TO THE NH90 PROGRAM

Leonardo is responsible for or significantly contributes to the design, production and / or integration of a wide range of critical systems and components of the NH90 helicopter. These include among others the tail section of the fuselage, the hydraulic system, the autopilot, the integration of the propulsion system, the mission system of the naval variant NFH (integrating sonar, radar, electro-optical system, self-protection systems electronics and identification, video systems and management of weapon systems including air-to-surface missiles and torpedoes to combat naval and submarine threats). Leonardo also integrates dedicated systems such as its Laser Obstacle Avoidance System (LOAM), its LEOSS-T electro-optical system (also chosen by the German Navy for its NH90 Multi Role Frigate Helicopter Program), Gatling type on the tailgate for some customers.

NOTE TO EDITORS ABOUT THE NH90 HELICOPTER

The NH90, the largest European helicopter program, is the ideal choice for carrying out missions in a modern operational context thanks to an all-composite structure with a large cabin, its excellent weight / power ratio and its wide range of equipment. It features a fly-by-wire flight control system to reduce pilot workload and optimize maneuverability. The NH90 is offered in two variants, one dedicated to naval operations (NFH - Nato Frigate Helicopter) and another to land missions (TTH - Tactical Transport Variant). To date, nearly 470 helicopters are in service around the world in both versions. The world fleet has accumulated nearly 330.000 hours of flight on mission, in the presence of any climatic conditions, both in land and sea.
