Leonardo flies to the Paris aerospace show with a new drone and training technologies

#Leonardo flies toParis Air Show (17-21 June) with a series of commercial successes and further progress on the industrial level. After important results in the helicopter sector, a consolidation of electronic activities and the creation of a cybersecurity division, Leonardo is also rapidly expanding its commercial presence worldwide, opening offices in Europe, Latin America and Asia.

The show will open with the presentation of a new drone - the latest addition to the Falco family - which demonstrates Leonardo's commitment to maintain its leadership position in the unmanned aircraft sector (on June 17 at Leonardo's static area) . Paris will also be the first opportunity to see the #AWHERO remotely piloted helicopter in its pre-production configuration with the ultra-light Gabbiano radar installed on board. Leonardo is investing significantly in drones and the new AWHERO production line in Pisa is an important example of this.

Strong attention will be paid to the study and implementation of new smart and autonomous modes of transport, thanks to Leonardo's innovative drive in air traffic control, artificial intelligence, big data, platforms and systems for the future aerospace ecosystem.

Leonardo is collecting the results of the strategic investment made in the training sector with five Training Academies, the International Flight Training School with the Italian Air Force and a unique range of planes and helicopters ideal for training the pilots of the future. More than 10.000 helicopter pilots and operators were trained in Leonardo's academies in 2018 and the deployment of another three M-346s at the IFTS represents a further milestone and reference point for fighter pilots from all over the world. The new production M-345 will also appear for the first time in Paris, an ideal aircraft to replace the current line of basic trainers with higher performance than turboprops.

The Air Force has today ordered 18 M-345.

Among the areas in which Leonardo continues to invest are fighter aircraft, such as the M-346 Fighter Attack equipped with the Grifo-346 radar. The M-346FA is an extremely effective low cost solution that adapts to numerous operational needs, combining the functionality of a light fighter with the qualities of an advanced training jet. The M-346FA allows you to perform close air support missions, air interdiction, national security and airspace control, tactical reconnaissance, and support for personnel recovery operations.

Leonardo also plays a fundamental role in European cooperation projects with theEurofighter Typhoon which will fly to the fair bringing on board avionics and cutting-edge sensors developed by Leonardo.

As for helicopters, Leonardo in 2018 recorded important results such as the contract with theUS Air Force for supply, with #Boeing as prime contractor, of the MH-139. Successes continued in the first months of 2019 as evidenced by the contract for the supply of model # to PolandAW101 to combat submarine threats and search and rescue missions (CSAR).

In Paris, Leonardo will exhibit its best-selling model AW139, in a public utility configuration, which is proving to be a hugely successful product with 270 customers and more than 1.100 ordered helicopters. Numbers that make this helicopter the most sold in the world of its class.

The Dual Use approach is fundamental in Leonardo's market positioning strategy in the helicopter sector, as evidenced by the 22 #AW169M ordered by the Guardia di Finanza for missions of public order. This philosophy, which also applies to unmanned systems, allows government operators to perform most missions by combining safety and performance at lower costs. Added to this is the fact that buyers of Leonardo helicopters can take advantage of the most modern technologies, including training and services, thanks to advanced virtual reality tools and flight diagnostics, which visitors to the Leonardo stand can have proof of Paris.

Leonardo is the only company capable of creating both the platforms and the advanced electronics that allow you to perform missions. The company's products on display include Osprey and Seaspray E-scan surveillance radars, sold in 30 countries, and # threat protection systemsSAGE and #SEER.

Among the news in Paris, the # systemMAIR (Multi-Aperture Infra-Red) will be exhibited for the first time, showing Leonardo's experience in the detection and tracking systems of threats, even long-range. The systems will also be present Skyward IRST and countermeasures Miysis e BriteCloud, for the protection of the latest generation fighters against InfraRed (IR) and Radio Frequency (RF) threats.

At the Paris Salon Leonardo is also projected into space through satellites COSMO- SkyMed second generation, the most ambitious Italian space program in the field of Earth observation. The program, which represents a huge leap forward in terms of technology, performance and operational life, will be launched at the end of 2019.

In collaboration with theItalian Space Agency (ASI), Leonardo will also present the first satellite photos #PRISM, which is collecting hyperspectral images that will allow researchers and the public to see Earth as they have never seen it before.
