The President of the Council Giuseppe Conte confirmed the release of Sergio Zanotti, abducted in Syria in the 2016.
The news of the kidnapping of Zanotti, a native of Brescia, had been confirmed by the foreign ministry in November 2016 when a video circulated in which Zanotti - with an armed man behind him - said he had been a prisoner in Syria for seven months and asked for the intervention by the Italian government for its release.
On the matter, the undersecretary of defense, Hon. Raffaele Volpi (Lega) commented: "After a complex and delicate intelligence, investigative and diplomatic activity, conducted in a synergistic way, we have today managed to obtain the release of Sergio Zanotti, kidnapped in April 2016. Our compatriot appears in good general conditions and in a few hours he will return to Italy , in Rome.
Testimony of a further success of our institutions and, in particular, of Aise. I thank, stresses Mr Volpi, the director of the Agency Luciano Carta and the services staff, every day at the service of the country, the Italians and national interests"
