The President of the Council, Giuseppe Conte, will soon have an update with the commander of the self-proclaimed Libyan National Army (LNA), General Khalifa Haftar, on the latest events in Libya. He told journalists from Sharm el Sheikh, after meeting with the government's premier of national agreement, Fayez al Sarraj. The news is reported by the Italian press agency Nova.
"There are significant movements also by General Haftar that we are following", Underlined Conte, referring also to the recent operation of the strong man from Cyrenaica in Fezzan. "I really care about the situation in Libya because it is strategic for Italy ", he added, recalling how conferences, talks" and constant attention are also aimed at preventing an escalation of violence or a civil conflict that is always around the corner " . Finally, "we believe that the solution can only go from dialogue, we must find a compromise".
About the road map coming out of the Palermo Conference and presented to the UN Security Council, Conte said: "It is not easy to respect it. I hope that the National Conference will be carried out by the UN Envoy Ghassan Salamé, because "it would be a moment of synthesis in which all the Libyan interlocutors can express their positions towards a more immediate solution possible.".
