Libya: Al Sarraj and the president of the NOC meet the CEO of ENI De Scalzi

The head of the Presidency Council of the Libyan government of national unity, Fayez al-Sarraj, met Eni's CEO today in Tripoli, Claudio Descalzi, to discuss the general situation in Libya in this difficult period, made even more complex by the pandemic. The meeting focused on an update on Eni's constant support for the country as regards access to energy and business continuity. The president of the National Oil Corporation (NOC) Mustafa Sanalla was also present.

Claudio Descalzi confirmed Sarraj's full commitment to the country's operational and planning activities and renewed Eni's commitment in the social field, with particular reference to the initiatives undertaken to support the NOC by supplying medical protective equipment, diagnosis and essential treatment in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

In line with the activities defined in the Memorandum of Understanding signed with the General Electric Company Of Libya (GECOL) and NOC, Eni is making a major contribution to the improvement of the energy sector, providing fundamental spare parts to guarantee generation continuity equal to 3 GW. In addition, Eni is providing training and technical support for the definition of the national network code and for improving the operability of the network itself.

In addition, Eni is studying the development of a new gas-fired power station and is supporting the launch of pilot renewable energy projects in the country, making its know-how and experience available. The introduction, for the first time, of renewable energies in Libya will respond to the increased demand for electricity for the population without increasing local hydrocarbon consumption and CO2 emissions.

Eni's CEO also met on a bilateral basis with the president of the NOC, Mustafa Sanalla, with whom he took stock of the situation on the status of Eni's current and future projects in Libya. Particular attention was paid to the progress of the mega Structures A&E project which will allow the extension of the Bahr Essalam production plateau in the coming years and will ensure the supply of gas to the local market, of which Eni will continue to be the main supplier in the coming years. In addition, NOC and Eni are evaluating the possibility of further developing the Bouri field, and in particular the undeveloped areas West and North, with the aim of fully exploiting its potential.

The CEO of Eni also expressed appreciation to the President of NOC for the continuous commitment to guarantee business continuity, logistical support and shifts of local staff, as well as for the great effort made by the management and employees of Mellitah Oil & Gas and by all the contractors involved in the activities, despite the current scenario of unprecedented complexity. In addition, Eni's CEO acknowledged NOC's great efforts to try to solve the blockage of production from the oil fields Onshore Libyans, including those owned by Eni (El-Feel and Abu-Attifel). The prolonged blockade, in addition to compromising the country's revenues, can also cause the deterioration of existing oil treatment plants.

Eni is the leading international producer of hydrocarbons in Libya, where it currently produces 170.000 barrels of oil equivalent per day equity.
