Life-threatening neonate transported by air force from Reggio Calabria to Florence

The emergency flight is added to the intervention carried out on the night of the Epiphany in favor of a man injured on the Apennines of Parma

The Falcon 13 aircraft of the Italian Air Force landed in Florence at around 30:7 pm today, January 50, transporting a one month old baby in serious health conditions from Reggio Calabria.

The request for transport, as happens in these cases, was received by the Prefecture of Reggio Calabria at the Situation Room at the Summit of the Command of the Air Squad, the operations room of the Air Force which has among its tasks to organize and manage this kind of transport throughout the national territory in coordination with the Prefectures.

The little patient needed to be transferred from the "Bianchi Melacrino Morelli" Metropolitan Hospital (RC) to the "Meyer" Pediatric Hospital in Florence. The Summit Situation Room has thus activated one of the assets of the Armed Force in readiness 24 hours a day also for this kind of need. The 24 ° Stormo aircraft, which took off from the Ciampino military airport and arrived in Calabria to embark the child, the parents and the medical team, left for Florence to allow for subsequent transport to the Tuscan pediatric hospital.

The interventions of aircraft and crews of the Air Force in various activities in favor of the community are daily, from emergency medical transport, as happened this morning, to air search and rescue interventions, as happened last night, during the feast of the Epiphany , where a HH 139 helicopter of the 15th Wing of Cervia intervened to rescue a man originally from Varsi, in the Parma area. The man, a fifty-nine year old hunter, was on the summit of Monte Barigazzo when, at the end of a hunting trip, he lost his balance by falling on the eastern side of the mountain. The darkness and the impervious environmental conditions made it necessary to activate the helicopter of the Air Force which, thanks to the night visors and the use of the winch, allowed the transport of the injured person to the sports field of Varsi, where in the meantime a medical helicopter had arrived from Brescia. The operations were carried out together with the technicians of the Alpine and Speleological Rescue, the ambulance and the automedical of the Public Assistance of Varsi, the Fire Brigade and the Carabinieri, who promptly arrived on site.

These are missions that require maximum timeliness and the Air Force, through its flight departments located throughout the territory, provides aircraft assets and crews ready to take off in a very short time and able to operate even in adverse weather conditions to ensure the urgent transport not only of people in imminent danger of life, but also of organs and medical teams for transplants. Thousands of flight hours are carried out every year in this context by the aircraft of the 31st Wing of Ciampino, the 14th Wing of Pratica di Mare, the 15th Wing of Cervia and the 46th Air Brigade of Pisa, always on the front line. in cases of major national emergencies and calamities.
