Angela Merkel, called the announcement of a face-to-face between North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and US President Donald Trump a "glimmer of hope".
During a press conference held in Munich, the Chancellor said: "On North and South Korea, but also on the possibility of a meeting with the president of the United States, we realize that a unanimous international response, which also includes sanctions , it can bring a glimmer of hope. We must work on the path we have taken and it would certainly be fantastic if we could reach an agreement because this tension on the nuclearization of North Korea has been a major source of concern for all of us ”.
The UN also praises the initiative and two protagonists: Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un. Antonio Guterres, UN Secretary General, stated that the initiative highlights "leadership and vision skills". Several times Guterres had invited the parties to a confrontation considering the nuclear threats coming from the Korean peninsula as the most urgent to keep at bay.
