THE MAYORS OF THE MUNICIPALITIES OF ARTENA, COLONNA, COLLEFERRO, VALMONTONE, LABICO, ZAGAROLO, PALESTRINA, SAN CESAREO AND CIAMPINO WRITE TO TRENITALIA
Following Trenitalia's decision to abolish, starting in December, two essential morning runs for the connection with Rome Capital – fast regional trains no. 12700 (05.33 from Colleferro to Roma Termini) and no. 4836 (06.00 from Colleferro to Roma Tiburtina) – the Mayors of the Municipalities of Colonna, Colleferro, Valmontone, Labico, Zagarolo, Palestrina, San Cesareo and Ciampino sent a joint request this morning to Trenitalia, the Lazio Region and the Extraordinary Government Commissioner for the Jubilee, asking for the reinstatement of the aforementioned cancelled journeys.
These connections are essential for many citizens who travel to Rome every morning for work and study. Their cancellation would represent a serious inconvenience for the community and for the hundreds of commuters who use these services every day.
In the joint letter, the Mayors expressed deep disappointment and underlined the need to strengthen regional transport, especially in view of the upcoming Jubilee of the Catholic Church in 2025, which will bring a high number of pilgrims and visitors to Rome and the surrounding areas. Limiting connections would conflict with the need to improve reception and mobility in the territories surrounding the Capital, which alone cannot absorb the expected increase in traffic.
The undersigned Mayors remain available for a constructive discussion with the competent authorities and trust in a rapid positive response that can lead to the revocation of this decision and the strengthening of regional rail transport in view of the Jubilee 2025.
