The UN rejects the bis security decree

Beatriz Balbin, head of the Special procedures of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, with a letter sent last May 15 to the Italian ambassador to the UN, Gian Lorenzo Cornado, addressed to the Italian foreign minister, Enzo Moavero Milanesi, asked, the Italian government, to reject the security decree bis because, in its opinion, "it is potentially capable of compromising the human rights of migrants, including asylum seekers and victims or potential victims of arbitrary detention, torture, human trafficking and other serious violations of human rights ”.
The indictment follows the two calls arrived in Rome in 2018 but completely snubbed by the Italian government.
In particular, the document refers to the directives that Salvini issued between March and April, which aim to hinder the activities of the NGOs and the Ionian Sea, the ship of the Mediterranea platform engaged in rescuing the Libyan Search and Rescue zone.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs Enzo Moavero confirmed that he had received a letter from the Permanent Representation to the United Nations in Geneva with requests for clarification and "points of concern with regard to the draft of the so-called" bis security decree not yet discussed by the Council of Ministers.
The letter was also sent to the Ministry of the Interior and, naturally, it will receive due attention from the Government, in line with the traditional respect for international commitments and the absolute protection of human rights ”.
