Fight against the mafia, international conference 20 years after the Palermo convention

Palermo Convention, 20 years later. On the twentieth anniversary of the entry into force of one of the main United Nations treaties against transnational organized crime - signed in the Sicilian capital - the Italian Government is organizing an international conference. On Friday 29 September, ministers and delegations from 34 countries will discuss in the bunker hall - named after Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino - on "The Palermo Convention and its protocols on human trafficking and migrant smuggling: legal and operational instruments to address criminal activities in the Mediterranean context”. Speeches are expected - among others - from the Minister of Justice, Carlo Nordio and the Minister of the Interior, Matteo Piantedosi. The work will be concluded in the afternoon by the Undersecretary to the Presidency of the Council, Alfredo Mantovano, and the UNODC Executive Director, Ghada Waly.

Journalists and photo-cinema operators interested in following the open sessions of the International Conference, the introductory and final ones, are invited to send - by 13pm on Tuesday 26 September - a request for accreditation to ufficiostampa.pref_palermo@interno.it and, for information, to the email ufficio.stampa@giustizia.it. Name and surname, place and date of birth, identification document, profession (journalists, photojournalists, cinematographer) must be indicated; journalists must also indicate their title and professional card number.
