That too came from the Asian continent and affected thirteen million Italians with twenty-three thousand deaths. The #Coronavirus, which with the arrival of beautiful temperatures will be placed in the archive of memories, in comparison it is a common cold.
After fifty years, however, the total unpreparedness of the Italians to face events of a greater magnitude than their own possibilities is striking. Men and women, old and children, try to exorcise evil by climbing on the mirrors of humor, others instead, as if nothing was happening, invite to resume daily life as if the virus could be eradicated by indifference.
Both behaviors do not solve anything but show a humanity that does not want to be diverted from the tragic course of its life, made up of fitness, aperitifs, restaurants and entertainment and more. The unexpected or the disease or even worse death, have no place in modern lives when these elements of life are an integral part.
At the base of all a great lack of faith. God has been placed and forgotten in some drawer of his own conscience and is so hidden that it cannot be found even on occasions like these.
I hear about luck. Yes, during the epidemic, for some, one must be lucky. But God really no, we just can't get it out.
But if the loss of faith in ordinary people finds justification in the unhealthy conduct of our generations that has gangrated minds and hearts, it cannot find justification in the Church.
In these days, I am reading the various bulletins issued with pride and satisfaction by the Bishops in their respective dioceses in a race in which - among clerics - they want to prove that they have been efficient. Apart from a faint and imperceptible invitation to prayer for the sick ... I repeat for the sick ... and rarely to ask God to eradicate evil, the rest is a decalogue that the competent department of the Ministry of Health could not have written better.
In a time of strong need for prayer, the Bishops look to the Ministry of Health. This is where they expect directions, provisions, suggestions. As if the Bishops were part of the institutions, as if the Bishops had a task in state functions.
One of the politicians on duty who appear daily on television to provide war bulletins or to earn media points in popular misfortune, exulted in front of the availability of a Bishop who would have made himself available to the institutions as he is in the same team .

The edges of the universe are in the hands of God. God can do everything. We have the weapon to overcome God himself: prayer.
In these moments of modern pestilence, which is not the work of God but the work of men, the only solution is to bend the knees on the ground is to invoke the Blessed Virgin. Only then will the Coronavirus return to being nothing.
