Government Crisis: Mattarella awaits signs in the next few hours

Sergio Mattarella expects developments in the political situation in Castelporziano. Only after it has been clarified will it take a few days off, and in the meantime it examines the security law before signing with which the law is promulgated. An accurate examination of a provision that, like the safety precedent, had attracted criticism from opposition and jurists. Meanwhile, after an interview yesterday with Prime Minister Conte on the latest provisions before the summer break, the Head of State observed the progress of the day. It is true that from an institutional point of view the situation is not dramatic: two days ago the government collected the trust, today on no motion trust was placed, the line of the Prime Minister Conte of a yes to the Tav is was confirmed by the Parliament, the majority was divided but it is not the first time and certainly it was not divided on a weight measure like the maneuver could be. The political front is different: the majority has marked a further political friction and so the questions are three: Does Conte feel that it no longer has the support of the majority? Di Maio thinks you can't go on anymore? Salvini believes that we cannot continue? These three actors are those who can decide whether to declare the experience of the yellow-green government ended. If Conte and Di Maio do not want to open a crisis, the ball passes to the leader of the League. What will the President of the Republic do in the event of a crisis? No road is already marked, except that, obviously, the consultations will be called, as the Constitution provides. Then everything will depend on how the eventual crisis would start. Al Colle assure that nothing has already been decided. An account, in fact, is whether following a withdrawal of trust by Salvini, the prime minister decided to put his mandate back in the hands of the Head of State, another account would instead be if the premier asked to be sent back to the Chambers for have a verification and a possible lack of confidence in that place. The precedent is: twice Romano Prodi, asked for the parliamentarization of the crisis. And if the prime minister asked to be returned to the chambers, the president could only agree. But this would lead to a condition of a discouraged government struggling with election management. It is therefore obvious that the choices made by the President of the Republic will be taken only following the decisions of the parties and the premier. And for now, net of the declarations of these hours, the climate is suspended. Conte has postponed the press conference announced for tomorrow, Di Maio is silent and the assembly of the M5s is canceled, Salvini continues in the aut aut 'or change or vote with more and more crepuscular tones but does not cut in these hours so net the rope that holds the majority together. The President waits to understand what prime minister and deputy prime minister will decide, knowing that the time is now tight: every decision must be made before the 9 September, when the Chamber will vote for the last time the parliamentary cut following which it will have to wait the time necessary for the possible convening of the referendum. A few hours more, to understand the fate of the legislature: if the Chambers were dissolved by mid-August, that is if the crisis was lightning, one could vote in mid-October and the 2020 maneuver would be difficult to write. It would be different if the fibrillation of these hours led to a reshuffle, much more manageable and with a limited impact on the fate of the legislature.
