Matteo Salvini and the "perfect storm"

Interior Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini was at Silvio Berlusconi's dinner in Arcore. A dinner without any end, according to him, just to go and see President Berlusconi. The reality is different, since small creaks are heard in the government. The goal of the Northern League leader is the appointment of Foa to Rai and the political alliances in the area, in view of the next electoral rounds.

Naturally Matteo Salvini is aware that we cannot go back completely with the old alliance because he would lose his image of “Captain with no ifs and buts”, and would see him as a turncoat and risk being punished at the polls. The idea of a new coalition is not a priority and after the Europeans and especially after the results, we can think of a possible new coalition.

In the center-right, there are two key factors to consider. Meloni will have to decide how to deal with the 4% barrier and Berlusconi must resign himself to no longer running to avoid being buried definitively by the support of the League.

With the government destined to last, the Azzurri find themselves in a condition of extreme weakness, because they cannot raise the tone as a real opposition would. They cannot openly take sides against the League. The result? A haemorrhage of lost votes.

So Matteo Salvini with the double-oven policy succeeds in gnawing votes to the 5 Stars Movement, recovering among the abstainers and shelling, day after day, votes also at the center-right. He would have created the perfect storm.
