Mazzarano Pd, ArcelorMittal: "The time for choices has come"

"The expert attempt to entrust the management of the largest steel plant in Europe to a private entity has come to an end, the time has come when the State intervenes directly".
The regional councilor from Taranto of the Democratic Party says in a note, Michael Mazzaranoin light of the latest news that ArcelorMittal has decided to abandon the management of the former Ilva plant in Taranto.
"This is certainly not the time for controversy but for solutions. ArcelorMittal has failed and it is right that you leave Taranto - explains Mazzarano - because he made a mistake in his forecasts on the economic accounts in the exclusive logic of the steel market trend.
Over the past few months, the acts performed in disfigurement of the territory have multiplied and workers by the Franco-Indian multinational. It is a must to thank all the protagonists of this story, who have pledged to guarantee a future for the Tarantino factory after the Riva family has left the scene, but at the same time we must take note that the solution identified has not proven to be the best. An outcome that has always been widely expected by us. So much so that the Puglia Region - continues the regional councilor - challenged the act of the Government of September 2017 in which the weakness of both the industrial and environmental plans of Arcelor Mittal was evident ".
"Today only the state can demonstrate that it is possible to affirm the modernity of the factory through innovation in production processes that respect the life of workers and citizens, also thanks to the copious investments that the European Commission is making available for the ecological transition. In addition to damaging the health and environmental effects, our territory also suffers from the mockery of a local system of small and medium-sized enterprises linked to payment arrears and receivables due from ArcelorMittal with dramatic economic and social consequences".
"We are at the side of the trade union organizations, which have activated initiatives in view of the summit convened for May 28 by Minister Patuanelli. Two more key steps - Mazzarano concludes - for a goal now desired by all: that of the turning point ".
