Mef: 177.725 new VAT numbers in the first quarter of 2023

In the first quarter of 2023, 177.725 new VAT numbers were opened, with a decrease of 6,4% compared to the corresponding period last year.

This is what emerges from the update of the Observatory data on VAT numbers published by the Ministry of Economy and Finance.

The distribution by legal nature shows that 75,1% of new openings were started by natural persons, 19,1% by corporations, 3% by partnerships.

With regard to geographical breakdown, 48,9% of new openings are located in the North, 21,1% in the Center and 29,8% in the South and Islands. The comparison with the same period of the previous year shows the greatest declines in Basilicata (-24,7%) and Sardinia (-15,8%). Positive variations are recorded in Val d'Aosta (+15,2%) and in Friuli VG (+2,6%).

The classification by production sector shows that the highest number of VAT registrations involved professional activities with 21,7% of the total, followed by commerce (16,2%) and construction (10%). Among the main production sectors, those that recorded the greatest increases compared to the first quarter of 2022 are accommodation and catering (+13,8%), transport and warehousing (+9,4%) and other services (+7,7, XNUMX%).

As far as natural persons are concerned, the share of new VAT numbers opened by women has reached 40,7%. On the other hand, 50,7% were started by young people up to the age of 35 and 30,2% by people aged between 36 and 50.

In the first quarter of 2023, 96.761 subjects adhered to the flat-rate tax regime, equal to 54,4% of the total of new openings.
