Mentana: "I repeat to Conte, you can't really do it"

So does the manager Enrico Mentana on his Fb profile, regarding the statements on the intervention of the Prime Minister, Giuseppe Conte: “Since many ask me, many talk about it, many have fielded a real shitstorm, but many others have made legitimate criticisms , let's talk about what I said yesterday to the news.

As we know already in the early afternoon, a probable television intervention to unified networks by Prime Minister Conte was anticipated. The reason was known: the new decree that extends the drastic measures that the defense against contagion make indispensable. To make room for Conte's communications, Commissioner Borrelli had limited the reading of the daily bulletin of the Civil Protection to a few seconds. Like all broadcasters, la7 also stopped programming to broadcast the live broadcast from Palazzo Chigi: in a serious moment like the one we are going through, it is vital to give immediate relief to measures that affect the life of all of us. Being able to address unified networks to all citizens is the prerogative of the president of the council and the head of stateand it has always been used, as is right, only in exceptional circumstances. And certainly the current emergency is. The premier well illustrated the situation and the measures that will still keep us bound until May 3. But then, moving on to European aid, he let himself go to a tough controversy with his political opponents. And this - I think so, I said it hot when commenting yesterday and I repeat it today - it just can't be done. Not when you use an absolute privilege as it is to speak directly to tens of millions of Italians, in a dramatic situation, from an institutional headquarters, illustrating a decree that concerns everyone's health and life. The politician Conte had a thousand tools to respond to the attacks (unpleasant, instrumental, electoral as much as he wishes) by Salvini and Meloni: through social media, with a press release, with statements or interviews. All the media, and of course the newspaper I run, would have given him ample space (and that's what we did last night too). But speaking to the country, Prime Minister Conte had to keep the profile for which he was allowed to use that privileged channel. If he wanted to explain the situation after the Eurogroup, as he did, it was enough for him to remember that the Italian government did not ask to enter the Mes and in the next European summit he will return to ask for Eurobonds, with all due respect to those who argue otherwise. Point. To the attacks, which I repeat sperhaps unpleasant, false, electoralistic or instrumental, but who are part of the paraphernalia of every opposition, they can and must replicate their peers in the majority, not the head of government while speaking to the country.
This is why I said that I would expose that part of his speech, other than censorship.
In the past I have made criticisms of the same tenor, and more lashing, to many of Conte's predecessors, like him at the moment of maximum consent, from Berlusconi to Renzi, and several times to Salvini himself when he was in government, on TV and here. Always sine ira et studio. And always with the same meter of journalistic distance. I do not pretend to have everyone's consent, nor to be right regardless; but respect good faith, independence and professional passion yes. The logic of the fanatics "if you criticize Tizio you are in the pay of Caius" repulses me. I know that I have always haunted social media and fought it. And I don't give up on my opinion when I think it's right. You can lose a follower or viewer, not consistency.
