Milan - 'ndrangheta, maxi-operation of the carabinieri

A vast anti-Mafia operation is underway, involving over 400 Carabinieri throughout the country, with the support of special units, canine and helicopters.

The Carabinieri of the Provincial Command of Milan, in the provinces of Milan, Varese, Cosenza, Crotone, Florence, Udine, Ancona, Aosta and Novara, are executing a precautionary custody order against 34 people, (Italian 32, a Moroccan and a Romanian woman), of which 27 is in prison and 7 under house arrest, held liable, in various capacities, for mafia-type association, damage followed by fire, extortion, private violence, aggravated personal injury, threat, detention and port abusive weapons, possession and drug dealing (all aggravated because committed by the mafia method and in order to facilitate the activities of the mafia association), aggravated fraud against the State and fictitious heading of goods, abusive access to a computer system or telematic.

The investigation, launched in April 2017 and coordinated by the Milan DDA, made it possible to ascertain that the organization had been able to infiltrate the institutional apparatus and that, from the second half of the 2016, a process of redefinition of the organizational structure of the local 'Ndrangheta of Legnano - Lonate Pozzolo, following the release of two top officials of the same criminal gang in strong contrast with each other.

Further details will be disclosed during the press conference to be held at today's 10.30 at the Press Room of the Provincial Command of Milan, in via della Moscova nr. 21 to which the Judicial Authority will also take part.
