Aeronautica Militare, new technologies: an innovative solution for training and maintenance was presented at the Lecce air base

A project resulting from a synergy with industry, universities and start-ups for the application of immersive reality and blockchain solutions to the aeronautical sector

The Air Force continues the exploration of disruptive technologies to enable more streamlined and effective logistical processes, necessary to face the challenges of the future as a responsible public administration and an Armed Force serving the country. The 10th Aircraft Maintenance Department (RMV) of the military airport of Galatina (Lecce) hosted today, Tuesday 29 October, the demonstration of a concept that aims to propose the application of immersive reality and blockchain technological solutions in sectors of training and maintenance on aeronautical systems.

"Augmented Maintenance 4.0”, This is the name of the project, which follows from the proposal of the team composed of Wideverse and M3S start-ups, among the winners of the“ Airathon ”innovation competition organized in June by 2018 Logistics Command AM at the Experimental Center of Flight of Pratica di Mare . The demonstration is framed, in particular, in the context of the preparatory activities for the start of the project “AIR4MAM"(Immersive Training and Remote Maintenance 4.0 for AM), evolution of the aforementioned" Augmented Maintenance 4.0 "and included in the National Plan of Military Research 2019 which sees the Leonardo group as leader together with the two start-ups and also at the University of Salento.

"Augmented Maintenance 4.0"And AIR4MAM aim at automating the management of maintenance interventions and speeding up training, remotely assisting operators in the field via augmented reality viewers and, at the same time, filming the activities, so as to generate an archive of tutorials for training and training technicians . In practice, the maintenance technician will receive an automatic call on his mobile device and may, if and when he deems it necessary, receive support from the designated tutor who may be on the same base, or at another department, main maintenance body or at the manufacturer. Every single step of the intervention foreseen by the maintenance checklist will be recorded indelibly and immutably on the blockchain. All the interventions will also be videotaped and stored, becoming as many tutorials, so as to become useful references for subsequent interventions or be used for training and training.

The military airport of Galatina, site of the 61 ° Stormo and of the 10 ° Aircraft Maintenance Department, confirms itself as a reference point in the field of technological innovation in the aeronautical field: for some years now, thanks to the advanced Italian production training system based on T-346A aircraft recalls the interest of aeronautics from around the world.
