Mipaaf: agreement on resources for companies and measures against African swine fever

Agreement reached on the next steps to be implemented in support of companies in the agri-food chain in the North East of Italy that are suffering the consequences of the measures adopted to combat African swine fever.

At the Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies, Minister Patuanelli, Minister Speranza, President Toti and President Cirio discussed the structures and regulatory instruments necessary to manage the enforcement actions and support the companies affected by the crisis linked to the swine fever African. The measures adopted by the Ministry of Health for the containment and eradication of the disease in domestic and wild pigs in Piedmont and Liguria, in fact, put a strain on production and commercial activities.

The agreement on the rules and tools will therefore make it possible to appoint a head of the Zooprophylactic Institute, already active in combating the disease, as an extraordinary interregional commissioner, as well as to define the methods, areas and criteria for distribution of refreshments that amount to 35 million euros. Their extent has been defined at the moment in the last Refreshments ter Decree in which a total of 50 million euros have been allocated for bio-surveillance and support to businesses in the supply chain.

The dialogue between Ministers, Presidents and Institutions will continue to further define the measures and regulatory instruments to avoid the passage of the disease to reared pigs and wild boars, to free the agri-food market from limitations, to avoid repercussions on the perception of the meat supply chain by consumers and to compensate damaged companies.
