The Italian soldiers of the mission in Afghanistan have donated food and sports material to the local population
The Italian Military Contingent of the mission in Afghanistan donated food and sports material, respectively, to the public orphanage “Khuja Abdullah Ansari” and to the sports association Women Economy Social & Sport in Herat.
The delivery ceremony took place today at Camp Arena, home of the Train Advise Assist Command West (TAAC-W), headed by the Brigade of Cavalry "Pozzuolo del Friuli" under the command of Brigadier General Giovanni Parmiggiani.
The donated food items will be used by the public orphanage for their own canteen. The Herat orphanage, which receives only state contributions, currently hosts 245 children, followed by the Institute until they reach the age of majority.
The sports equipment offered will allow the women's volleyball and cycling teams of the Association to have the necessary equipment (from uniforms to bike helmets, from sneakers to first aid kits) to continue training and participate in sports competitions organized in the province of Herat and beyond.
“This contribution of the Italian contingent - underlined General Parmiggiani - aims to demonstrate our closeness and support to the social and associational activities that are developing in Herat and throughout the province. The commitment of the Afghans in these areas is an example for the entire population and an important sign of growth ”.
At the end of the ceremony, a group of athletes from the sports association performed with a dynamic martial arts essay and a volleyball match.
Resolute Support, a NATO-led mission, is composed of soldiers from 38 nations, all united in a single purpose, to contribute to training, assistance and advice to local institutions and security forces in order to facilitate the conditions for the creation of a state of law, credible and transparent institutions and above all, autonomous and well-equipped security forces. This path is leading the Afghan Security Forces to take on the task of guaranteeing the security of the country and of its fellow countrymen.
