Libya, Mogherini meets al Sarraj and Salamè: "preserving oil infrastructure, under the control of the NOC"

The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini, met the Prime Minister of the Government of Libyan National Agreement, Fayez al Sarraj, and the UN special envoy for Libya, Ghassan Salame, on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, running until February 17. This was announced by the EU External Action Service (SEA) in a statement. The news was released by the Italian agency Nova. Mogherini's talks with Sarraj and Salamé, met separately by the High Representative, were devoted to "how to advance the political process in Libya". Particular attention was paid to the United Nations-led National Conference for Libya and the elections that will follow it in the North African country, "after the approval of an appropriate constitutional and legal framework". Mogherini also recalled "the recent events in southern Libya, underlining the importance for all Libyans of avoiding further confrontations and guaranteeing the protection of civilians". The High Representative therefore highlighted "the need to preserve the oil infrastructure" in the North African country, "which belong to all Libyans and which must remain under the control of the legitimate National Oil Company (NOC)" of Libya. Finally, with Sarraj and Salamè, Mogherini discussed methods to "accelerate economic reforms" in Libya and how to "improve conditions in detention centers for migrants" in the country, "with the assistance of the EU and UN agencies ".
