'Ndrangheta. Cartabia: "inescapable judicial cooperation"

"Another confirmation of the importance that international judicial cooperation assumes as an unavoidable moment in the fight against transnational crime. The fight against criminal associations can only be achieved through cooperation between all those involved".

The Minister of Justice, Marta Cartabia, applauds the outcome of the operation that led to the capture in northern Brazil of Rocco Morabito, boss of the 'Ndrangheta, considered the second most dangerous fugitive, after Matteo Messina Denaro, and of a character from prominent drug trafficker, Vincenzo Pasquino. "I thank the Public Prosecutors of Reggio Calabria and Turin; the Directorate General for International Affairs and Judicial Cooperation of the Ministry of Justice, but obviously I also thank the Carabinieri, in particular the Ros, and Criminalpol for their dedication and high professionalism, which led to the conclusion of long and complex investigations . This result - continues the Keeper of Seals - it is also the result of the fruitful collaboration with the Brazilian Ministry of Justice ”. The Minister of Justice then underlines how "The operation is also the result of the use of an innovative investigation tool, stipulated between the two Ministries of Justice and the judicial authorities of Italy and Brazil, with the support of Eurojust, or the joint investigation team: based on the art. 19 of the 2000 Palermo Convention gives the possibility to States to create and organize joint investigative bodies, for carrying out investigative activities".
