Around the 22: 30 last night the urgent transport from Reggio Calabria to Genoa of a new-born baby ended, for which a specialized intervention was necessary at the Gaslini Children's Hospital.
The request, as required by the emergency procedures for this type of transport, was received by the Prefecture of Reggio Calabria at the Summit Situation Room of the Air Squad Command, the Air Force operations center that has control of the assets available for this. kind of missions throughout the national territory.
For the little patient, in danger of life, it was decided to immediately transfer from the "Bianchi Melacrino Morelli" Metropolitan Hospital (RC) to the "Gaslini" pediatric hospital in Florence. The Summit Situation Room then activated one of the Armed Force aircraft in operational readiness service 24 hours a day. The aircraft of the 24st Wing, which took off from the Ciampino military airport and arrived in Calabria to embark the child, parents and the medical team left for Florence to allow for subsequent transport to the Tuscan pediatric hospital.
The interventions of aircraft and crews of the Air Force in activities for the community are daily and concern numerous areas: from emergency medical transport, such as that of last night, which allow you to quickly move patients in critical conditions to specialized centers on everything the national territory, together with specialized medical teams, to the transport of organs for transplants, which also requires rapid reaction times, to air search and rescue interventions in the case of missing and / or traumatized people, to the competition in the case of public magnet.
In any case, these are missions that require the utmost timeliness and the Air Force, with flight departments located throughout the territory, provides aircraft and crews ready to take off in a very short time and able to operate even in adverse weather conditions .
Thousands of flights per year are made in this context by the aircraft of the 31 ° Stormo of Ciampino, of the 14 ° Wing of Pratica di Mare, of the 15 ° Wing of Cervia and of the 46a Air Brigade of Pisa, always in the front line also in cases of major emergencies and national disasters.
