NIGER: drugs donated to the Niger Ministries of Health and Defense

Today, March 27, the Italian Embassy in Niamey and the Bilateral Support Mission in Niger (MISIN), have provided for the delivery of a batch of drugs, collected and made available by the Banco Farmaceutico Onlus Foundation in the within the scope of the collaboration agreement between the Joint Forces Operational Command (COI), the Military Ordinariate and the aforementioned non-profit organization, aimed at developing humanitarian support activities in the health field for people in conditions of socio-economic disadvantage in Operating Theaters.

The Ambassador of Italy to Niamey, Marco Prencipe, and Brigadier General Antonio Maggi, Commander of MISIN, handed over the medicines at the military airport of Niamey to the representatives of the Nigerian Ministries of Public Health and Defense who thanked the our staff for the constant and incessant support provided in the health sector.

Today's inter-ministerial and inter-agency initiative, a clear expression of the commitment of the entire “Country System” in favor of the weaker sections of the Niger population, was launched thanks to the synergistic action of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, of Cooperation International and Ministry of Defense through the Italian Embassy in Niamey and the Bilateral Support Mission in Niger.

Today's donation is the tenth in order of time. Nigerian Ministries of Public Health and Defense received about three tons of drugs from Italy thanks to the logistical support provided by MISIN.

To date, a total of approximately 68 tons of medicines have been distributed with mainly anticoagulant function and health materials that will be used in Niger hospitals for the post-operative treatment of surgical procedures.

The mission aims to provide support to the Republic of Niger within the following guidelines:

  • Support to the Niger authorities in the process of stabilizing the area and strengthening territorial control capacities in a joint European and US effort.
  • Training in favor of the Niger security forces aimed at increasing the capacity aimed at contrasting the phenomenon of illegal trafficking, security threats, the competition for border and territory surveillance activities.

The Mission will have a progressive development, foreseeing a use of up to a maximum of 470 soldiers, in order to offer greater training capacities and expand the area of ​​intervention.
