New patient: one in three patients over 65 with at least three diseases. New medicine, new doctor

(Nicola Simonetti) It's called "Complexity", that is, more diseases that meet in the same person who, for this reason, often identifies with "chronicity" (60% of all pathologies) and requires a more prepared doctor for the circumstance.
Diabetes, hyperglycemia, atherosclerosis, heart failure, arterial hypertension, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's are the largest co-defendants who, variously assembled, up to 2 on three over 65 and who demand more drugs, more doctors and impose higher costs.
This scenario does not find medicine unprepared. The scientific community is preparing to prepare the "doctor of complexity". To date, however, in the university there are only the individual branches of medicine, with the result of a fragmented knowledge. To take care of the person as a whole, it is necessary to field a new health figure, the 'doctor of complexity', prepared through specific training courses.
The Association The System Academy - says the president Augusto Zaninelli, in the scientific meeting on "The complex patient, a new protagonist on the health scenario", held in Rome, with the unconditional support of Alfasigma - is to organize validated educational courses, "To prepare to take the professional certification exam of a doctor expert in complexity medicine, or a professional capable of managing the patient with common sense, taking into account all pathologies". "These - says Claudio Ferri, president of the Italian Society of Arterial Hypertension must all be treated".
“The chronically ill can be cured but it is difficult to cure. It is essential for the treatment - says Enzo Manzato, president of the Italian Society for the Study of Atherosclerosis - to be able to ensure adherence to therapies, which are also "complex".
